Historian Neil Bruce will talk about "The Highland Exclusion Zone in WWII"

Local historian, Neil Bruce, will talk about his research on the The Highland Exclusion Zone in WWII.

Many NOSAS members will already know that the Highlands north of the Lovat Bridge outside Beauly was a militarised zone, with access in and out strictly controlled.

In March 2020 the governments of the United Kingdom implemented a general lockdown in order to reduce the spread of Covid 19 and to reduce pressure on the National Health Service. This prompted Neil Bruce to consider how governmental decisions affected life throughout the region during the two world wars of the twentieth century. The focus will be on the second conflict with references to restrictions in the first.

Neil is a graduate of the MLitt Highlands and Islands History programme at the Centre for History, University of the Highlands and Islands.

Joining details for this online Zoom meeting will be emailed out to all NOSAS members shortly before the meeeting.
