Tarradale Through Time: Community Archaeology on the Black Isle

The new NOSAS publication, published September 2022

The Tarradale Through Time community archaeological project completed five years of intensive fieldwork and investigation of the multiperiod archaeology of the Tarradale area near Muir of Ord in the Black Isle.

This book describes the six excavations that were undertaken, ranging in time from Mesolithic shell middens created 6000 to 8000 years ago, through to the houses of poor farm labourers that were abandoned 200 years ago. The excavated sites also included a Bronze Age agricultural and ritual landscape, an Iron Age fort located in marshland and a large and complicated barrow cemetery dating from Pictish times.

The Tarradale Through Time project is a superb example of how archaeology supported by the local community can uncover thousands of years of history and foster a sense of identity with the local landscape.

The book is available for £9.99 including UK p&p. Order using the Paypal button below.
