NOSAS Kinellan Walk, Strathpeffer
31 May 2025 10:00
'Reading the Landscape'. The first of two walks around Coul Estate; this first one will be a circular walk around Kinellan, including a walk up to Kinellan House.
Very easy going, all on the hard, about 3 miles circular. Start and park at Nether Kinellan. Whilst John will lead the walk he hopes that those attending will contribute from their own knowledge and experience of reading the landscape. Topics will include clues in todays landscape of the past, old maps and the role of 18th and early 19thC map makers in agricultural improvement and the shaping of what we see today, the role of the lairds, designed gardens and landscapes, the evolution of land drainage, trees and hedges, battles and skirmishes, Kinellan Crannog (viewed from the shore), the site of the old settlement of Kinellan, and the impact of the new SSEN 400KV OHL.
10am start, bring a packed lunch, finish sometime in the afternoon. If you wish to attend please contact John Wombell at john.wombell@btinternet.com.
